Lin Liu

Dr. Liu joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2013. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Iowa State University of Science and Technology where he developed new theoretical models to predict both the electrochemical performance and the reliability of solid oxide fuel cells. While at Iowa State, Dr. Liu received the University Graduate Student Teaching Excellence Award, as well as the Iowa State Graduate Student Research Excellence Award. In 2011 he was named one of 7 Iowa State graduate student Wakonse Fellows, an honor given in recognition of being “models for the (national) community of teachers/scholars.” Dr. Liu also has industrial experience at General Motors and The Stanley Works.

Most recently, Dr. Liu served as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where he investigated degradation mechanisms leading to the failure of lithium-ion batteries. Dr. Liu has co-authored 8 refereed journal articles, as well as numerous conference papers and technical reports.
