Biography

Dr. Kwon joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2016. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2014. From 2014 to 2016, he worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT. His research endeavors are driven by a commitment to addressing pressing challenges in sustainability, energy, and engineering through materials innovation. His work straddles polymers and soft matters, surface science, materials chemistry, and separation processes. He has published 30 peer-reviewed journal articles, 3 book chapters, and invented/co-invented 10 patents of which 2 licensed. His research has been sponsored by the National Science Foundation, Department of Interior, NASA, among others. Dr. Kwon received the Faculty Early Career Award from the National Science Foundation in 2020.
