Biography —
Molly McVey, Ph.D. joined the Mechanical Engineering department in 2024 as an assistant teaching professor. Prior to joining KU, she was a teaching professor in the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Vancouver, BC where she taught courses on the engineering design process, numerical methods, environmental life cycle assessment, and capstone design. There she earned the SFU Early Career Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2024. Prior to SFU, Dr. McVey was a post-doctoral teaching fellow at the KU School of Engineering and worked along faculty to incorporate evidence-based and student-centered teaching methods in over 17 engineering courses. She has a passion for the development of engineering identity and feelings of belonging in students and investigating the impacts of course and program-level changes on student learning and retention, specifically for students from diverse backgrounds. Dr. McVey earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at KU, focusing on experimental biomechanics to better understand balance problems in Parkinson’s disease.
